The Dreaded Four Letter Word

Zechariah Newman —  December 12, 2013 — 6 Comments

There is an F word that is so insidious the Bible talks about it more than any other subject. That is fear. Fear keeps a lot of us from doing what we know we should do. It causes us to doubt whether we heard God. It causes us to miss opportunities and most importantly it can keep us from the crazy adventure that God wants us to enjoy. We hear the whispers of God and think, “No that can’t be right.” Because of this thing called fear dreams die.

In John 10:10 it states, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance.” I believe that fear is an attack on our minds. It keeps our minds busy enough on the wrong type of things. Life is to be lived in the here and now. Fear most often is us trying to anticipate the future. Let’s learn how to feel the fear and take a step anyway. Grace for the next step does not come until we are taking that step. (Tweet it)

In the end we have one thing. One thing that causes us to not be afraid, one thing that says pick up hope. Thank goodness we have reason to hope. That is this; that God is with us. Psalm 23:4 says, “Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid, because you are with me. Your rod and your walking stick comfort me.” Fear freezes and causes hesitation while hope causes movement and action. (Tweet it)Choose to pick up hope. Choose to look beyond yourself and look where the hope is; it is in Jesus. Walk proud with the One that walks with us through the dark valley. Be blessed on your journey.

  • Zech, I enjoyed your blog. Hope causes movement and action, but I think movement and action also causes hope.

It’s important to keep moving and putting one foot in front of the other. No one ever accomplished anything by simply sitting still.

    • Larry thank you. I totally agree with you. Freezing in fear is the one that kills.

  • Great topic. We can’t allow fear to cause us to be inactive or to block us from chasing our dreams. Like you said, we have to take action on what we fear (Even if it’s small steps).

    • Amen Dan. One small step at a time can turn into thousands of miles!

      • They sure do:) Keep making those steps, my friend. Your doing some great things here.
